Win Up to $1 Million in Global AI Innovation Challenge

Smallholder farmers in developing nations face escalating threats from climate change, labor shortages, and food insecurity. To address these challenges, the THRIVE Global Impact Challenge is offering up to $1 million in funding for startups leveraging artificial intelligence to revolutionize agriculture. Applications are open until May 25, 2025, with a focus on scalable, climate-resilient innovations.

The competition targets early-stage ventures (seed to Series A) developing AI and automation tools such as robotic farming systems, crop health diagnostics, and data-driven supply chain platforms. “AI-enabled solutions can empower farmers to optimize yields while adapting to environmental pressures,” notes a THRIVE spokesperson. Winning technologies could reshape practices for over 500 million smallholders globally

Prioritizing Scalability and Tangible Climate Impact

Judges will prioritize startups demonstrating proven results in areas like reducing water use, curbing deforestation, or enhancing crop resilience. “We’re seeking solutions that marry innovation with measurable environmental benefits,” the spokesperson adds.

Vertical farming systems and AI-powered farm management platforms are among the high-interest categories, particularly those tailored to regions like sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

The prize includes equity investment from SVG Ventures and access to THRIVE’s network of agribusiness leaders. Past winners, such as a Kenyan startup using drones for pest detection, have seen adoption across six countries, boosting yields by 30%.
