The UK Agri-Tech Centre has announced the appointment of Steve McLean as its new Chief Executive Officer, following an extensive recruitment process.

McLean, who currently serves as Head of Agriculture & Fisheries Sourcing at Marks & Spencer (M&S), will officially assume his new role on 27 January 2026.

Bringing decades of experience in retail, agriculture, and fisheries, McLean has been recognised for his ability to drive innovation and foster collaboration across the food supply chain.

His appointment comes at a time when the British agricultural sector is undergoing rapid technological transformation, with growing emphasis on sustainability, productivity, and resilience.

Speaking on his appointment, McLean said he was honoured to take on the leadership role at such a crucial period for the industry.

“The sector is undergoing rapid transformation, and the organisation plays a vital role supporting the development of agri-tech innovation, which helps farmers and food producers meet the challenges of sustainability, productivity and resilience,” he said.
“I look forward to working with our partners across the industry to accelerate progress and deliver real impact.”

Dr Peter Quinn, Chairman of the UK Agri-Tech Centre, commended McLean’s appointment and expressed confidence in his capacity to advance the centre’s mission.

“Steve’s appointment will be instrumental in building on Hannah Senior’s success, providing strategic leadership to drive growth in the agri-tech sector and supporting businesses to successfully develop and commercialise their products and services,” he stated.

Interim CEO Hannah Senior, who led the organisation during the transition, will step down from her role but remain on the board. Reflecting on her tenure, she highlighted the progress made in strengthening the Centre’s impact.

“We’ve taken huge strides to make the business more impactful in supporting innovative companies to develop and commercialise their agricultural technologies,” Senior said.
“I couldn’t be more pleased that in the new year it’s Steve, bringing his deep understanding of the value chain and the sector, who will be leading the organisation forward to an exciting future.”

The UK Agri-Tech Centre continues to position itself as a cornerstone of innovation in food and farming, bringing together researchers, businesses, and policymakers to accelerate sustainable growth in the agri-food sector.
