In a major step towards strengthening global food security, the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC) a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has partnered with Swiss agri-tech giant Syngenta Crop Protection AG.
The two organisations have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) in Basel, Switzerland, outlining a joint commitment to advancing innovation and sustainability across the global agri-food landscape.
The collaboration will focus on sustainable farming, digital agriculture, soil health, and crop protection. Planned initiatives include climate-smart farming, sustainable soil and water management, crop and seed innovations, as well as capacity building and technical training for farmers.
The partners also intend to establish centres of excellence to promote knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and the adoption of best practices worldwide.
Founded in 2012, SALIC plays a vital role in enhancing Saudi Arabia’s food security, investing across the global agricultural value chain in alignment with Vision 2030.
Its portfolio spans grains, livestock, food processing, and agri-tech, with partnerships in several key regions.

Suliman Al-Rumeih, Group CEO of SALIC, described the agreement as a milestone in responsible innovation. “This partnership with Syngenta demonstrates SALIC’s dedication to sustainability and international collaboration,” he said. “By merging technology, expertise, and ethical farming practices, we aim to empower farmers, preserve natural resources, and strengthen global food systems.”
Syngenta, which operates in more than 90 countries, is known for its cutting-edge research in crop science and its mission to help farmers grow healthier, higher-yielding plants.
