MazaoHub, a Tanzanian agri-tech startup, has raised $2 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round to expand its AI-powered climate-smart farming solutions across Africa.
This investment combines $1.5 million in equity funding, led by Catalyst Fund with participation from Nordic Impact Fund, Mercy Corps Ventures, elea Foundation, Impacc, and DOB Equity, and $500,000 in non-dilutive capital from the Livelihood Impact Fund.

- Tech and Touch Approach: MazaoHub’s hybrid model blends AI-powered soil intelligence with in-person farmer support via Farmer Excellence Centers, also known as “agricultural clinics.”
- Soil Intelligence: The startup uses low-cost soil sensors and portable testing kits to provide farmers with precise
recommendations on fertilizer use, irrigation, and organic manure
. - Market Access: MazaoHub’s platform connects farmers directly to buyers with full traceability from soil data to shipment, ensuring transparency and better prices for farmers.
- Financial Inclusion: The startup has partnered with CRDB Bank Foundation to provide financial products to smallholder farmers, using real-time agronomy data to validate productivity and creditworthiness.

- Climate Benefits: MazaoHub’s model aims to reduce fertilizer use by up to 30%, boost organic manure adoption fivefold, and optimize irrigation, resulting in lower emissions, water savings, and improved soil health.
