In a significant move to modernise agriculture and boost mechanisation, Ghana has signed a landmark agreement with Turkish tractor manufacturer Hattat Traktör to establish a tractor assembly plant in the country (Ministry of Food and Agriculture, 2025). This partnership is expected to revolutionise the agricultural sector by increasing access to affordable, locally assembled tractors.
Partnership Details and Strategic Goals
The deal involves Hattat Traktör providing technical expertise and support to 10G Globaltech Ltd, a Ghanaian company chosen to spearhead the project. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is closely involved in the initiative, which aligns with the government’s broader vision to industrialise agriculture and improve farm productivity (GNA, July 2025).
By assembling tractors locally, Ghana aims to reduce its heavy reliance on imported farm machinery—a major barrier to mechanisation for many smallholder farmers. The locally assembled tractors will be rugged and mechanically operated, designed specifically to meet the needs of Ghanaian farmers.
Boosting Agricultural Mechanisation
Currently, about 78% of agricultural work in Ghana is done manually, limiting productivity and growth (FAO, 2024). According to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana, this new assembly plant is expected to increase mechanisation levels significantly by making tractors more affordable and accessible through the government’s Farmer Service Centre initiative.
Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, who led the delegation to Hattat Traktör’s production facility in Istanbul, highlighted the importance of building local capacity not only to assemble but also to maintain and eventually manufacture tractors adapted to Ghana’s unique agricultural conditions.
Economic and Social Impact
Beyond improving farm productivity, the tractor assembly plant is poised to create jobs and stimulate local industry. It represents a critical step toward Ghana’s ambition to become a regional hub for agricultural machinery production, fostering technology transfer and innovation.

While specific details such as the plant’s exact location, production capacity, and timeline are yet to be announced, the partnership marks a milestone in Ghana’s agricultural transformation journey.
Looking Ahead
This collaboration with Hattat Traktör reflects Ghana’s commitment to supporting farmers with appropriate technology and infrastructure. By boosting mechanisation, Ghana hopes to increase food security, improve livelihoods, and drive sustainable agricultural growth.
