Agritech startup Cropin has teamed up with Walmart to optimize the retail giant’s fresh produce supply chain through artificial intelligence.
The partnership, which is currently in its pilot phase, aims to improve yield forecasting, monitor crop health, and predict seasonal transitions with greater accuracy. Cropin’s agri-intelligence platform will help Walmart enhance product availability and reduce waste by synchronizing real-time field data with demand, enabling better inventory management.
Krishna Kumar, Cropin’s founder and CEO, noted, “We are currently in the pilot phase of our partnership with Walmart, leveraging Cropin’s technology to enhance product availability and reduce waste through predictive, real-time intelligence across specific crop value chains.”
This collaboration is seen as vital in addressing the disruptions faced by the retail and consumer goods sector due to climate change, which has impacted sourcing and increased risks.
Kyle Carlyle, Walmart’s Vice President of Sourcing Innovation, also emphasized the role of tech in optimizing supply chains, stating, “Tech innovation is what drives real-world solutions to move forward a globally resilient supply chain.” The use of AI in predicting yields, crop health, and post-harvest conditions will help Walmart and its suppliers make smarter, more sustainable decisions.
