Agrolinking

Agrolinking is an agritech startup that offers agribusiness consulting, data, and insights services, providing the needed support for organisations to invest and operate efficiently in Nigeria’s and Africa’s agricultural landscape.

The company commenced operations in 2020 with a simple purpose to enable market access and bridge gaps between smallholder farmers and business opportunities along the supply chains.

Company Background

Agrolinking was co-founded in 2020 by Joseph Fashola (CEO), Deborah Ogunyemi (Chief Marketing Officer), and Olamide Olutekunbi (Technical Lead). The company embodies its bold vision to “Build the Backbone of Africa’s Agriculture” by empowering agribusinesses with customised consulting, reliable data, and transformative technology.

The name “Agrolinking” reflects its mission: connecting stakeholders across the agricultural ecosystem, from rural farmers to urban consumers, to create agribusinesses that are not just productive but also profitable, impactful, and sustainable.

As Nigeria faces the challenge of diversifying its economy beyond oil amid a rising population and youth unemployment, agriculture has become a strategic focus once more. Agrolinking stands out as a catalyst for this transformation, connecting farmers, investors, markets, and technology to reshape the agricultural value chain for a more resilient future.

Agrolinking was born out of a vision to create a smarter, more inclusive agricultural ecosystem. The founders recognised the fragmented nature of Nigeria’s agricultural value chain. They aimed to bridge the many gaps that have long hindered productivity, efficiency, and profitability for food producers, particularly smallholder farmers. These include poor market access, low yield due to outdated practices, lack of credits, and limited access to reliable data and modern inputs.

Founders and Leadership

Joseph Fashola, Co-founder and CEO

Joseph Fashola operates in a unique position at the intersection of agriculture, business, technology, financing, and consulting. He, through his experience, noticed how structural gaps, limited capital, market access and knowledge barriers constrained farmers. He decided to build solutions that help agribusinesses grow, scale, and thrive.

He brings to the fore innovation, business analysis, and venture development across Africa’s agri-food systems, which serve as the basis for the operations of Agrolinking.  He led the development of AgTrail, Nigeria’s first digital food traceability platform that enhances transparency, financial inclusion, and compliance, unlocking over 40% premium market access and accelerating growth for over 100 agribusinesses.

Under his leadership, he has built and supported agricultural enterprises with direct capital access and helped agribusinesses generate revenue.

He believes farmers are businesses and should be supported as such, hence his undying passion for building the future of food systems where agribusinesses thrive, value flows equitably, and technology drives inclusive growth.

Agrolinking is developing technology driven products. AgTrial has been developed while AgSur is still work-in-progress.

  1. AgTrail:

The flagship product of Agrolinking is AgTrail. AgTrail is Nigeria’s first end-to-end digital food traceability solution, ensuring transparency, quality assurance, and safety across the agricultural supply chain. Powered by block chain, QR code technology, and data analytics. AgTrail enables farmers, processors, distributors, regulators, and consumers to access verified information on product origin, handling, nutritional content, and sustainability practices. By capturing and authenticating every stage, from farm to fork, AgTrail builds consumer trust, reduces foodborne risks, minimises post-harvest losses, and expands premium market access for smallholder farmers. The platform also supports compliance with NAFDAC standards and international regulations, including EU food safety guidelines. In a rapidly evolving global food system, AgTrail is transforming Nigeria’s agriculture by making food systems safer, more transparent, and more competitive while empowering stakeholders and their products with digital identities.

  1. AgSur:

This product is in the pipeline as the company plans to launch it soon. AgSur is an alternative scoring algorithm that will leverage data to assess the creditworthiness of farmers, processors and other stakeholders along the value chain seeking credits and investments in whatever capacity. It will provide a solution to de-risk investments for funders and ultimately help create a more inclusive financial ecosystem.
