- Permia Sensing’s core focus is on using acoustic sensors to detect Red Palm Weevil (RPW) with an impressive 97% accuracy.
- Their technology goes beyond pest control
- Permia Sensing’s solutions are designed to be both efficient and sustainable.
- The successful pilot trials in Sri Lanka combined with the recent funding highlight their focus on expanding their reach globally.
Permia Sensing, an AgriTech startup spun out of Imperial College London, has secured a £150,000 investment from the British Design Fund. This funding will propel the company forward in its mission to revolutionize palm plantation management through innovative precision farming techniques.
Permia Sensing’s technology platform integrates cutting-edge Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics to empower palm farmers with a comprehensive data-driven approach. This enables them to optimize crop yields, minimize environmental impact, and maximize profitability.
“We are thrilled to receive this investment, which will be instrumental in scaling our technology and delivering real-world impact to the palm farming industry,” said the CEO of Permia Sensing. “Our solutions address the critical challenges palm plantations face, including pest infestations, nutrient deficiencies, and drought stress.”
One of Permia Sensing’s key innovations is its highly accurate acoustic sensor technology. It boasts a remarkable 97% accuracy in detecting Red Palm Weevil (RPW) larvae – a devastating pest that destroys an estimated 10% of global coconut yield annually. Early detection of RPW infestations allows for targeted and timely treatment, minimizing crop losses and maximizing profitability.
Permia Sensing’s focus on early pest detection aligns perfectly with the commitment to supporting sustainable and efficient agricultural practices, as their technology holds immense potential to transform the palm farming industry on a global scale.
Beyond pest control, Permia Sensing’s technology leverages AI and data analysis to provide farmers with a holistic understanding of their plantations. This includes insights into nutrient deficiencies, irrigation needs, and overall crop health, enabling informed decision-making and optimized resource management.
