African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) has launched a high-impact opportunity: the African Women in Data Science Fellowship. This groundbreaking initiative is tailored for African women professionals using data science to transform agriculture and build climate resilience across the continent.

As agrifood systems become more complex and data-driven, the need for skilled leadership is urgent. This fellowship addresses that gap by equipping African women with advanced technical and leadership skills to drive sustainable agricultural solutions using data.

Why this matters for agritech:
Data science is rapidly reshaping how we grow, process, and distribute food. From predictive analytics for crop yields to AI models addressing climate impact, women trained through this program will play a critical role in modernizing Africa’s agricultural landscape.

Key Program Features:

  • Leadership Training (Nov 2025): A 7-day immersive course to build influence, confidence, and strategic thinking in agritech leadership.
  • Intensive Data Science Bootcamp (Feb 2026): Two weeks of hands-on training in Python, machine learning, visualization, and analytics tailored for agriculture and climate resilience.
  • Virtual Applied Learning (Apr–May 2026): A 2-month course applying data tools to real agrifood system challenges.
  • Capstone Project (Feb–Sep 2026): Fellows will design and implement an agriculture- or climate-focused project, supported by seed funding and expert mentorship.
  • Industry Placement (AST) (May–Sep 2026): A short-term institutional placement to test and expand their skills in real-world agritech environments.
  • Mentorship & Networking (Mar–Nov 2026): Continuous guidance from experienced data professionals and engagement through AWARD’s expansive network.

Who Should Apply:
Women from Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Malawi with experience in data-related roles—especially those committed to advancing sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.
