$15.5M Investment Fuels Agritech Innovation and Workforce Training in B.C.

British Columbia is set to strengthen its food systems and drive economic growth with a significant $15.5 million investment in agritech innovation and workforce training.

The funding, channeled through the Simon Fraser University (SFU)-led B.C. Centre for Agritech Innovation (BCCAI), will support 19 new agritech projects and nine crucial training programs.

This strategic investment addresses key challenges facing B.C. food producers, including:

Soil health: Advancements in technologies to improve soil quality and sustainability.

Indoor agriculture: Enhancements to controlled environment agriculture for year-round production.

Plant and animal health: Innovations to protect crops and livestock from diseases and pests.

Indigenous food sovereignty: Training programs that support Indigenous communities in strengthening their food systems.
